Text: John 3:16
Have you been asked this question by a non-believer? How would you answer them and how can we relate this very truth to help their unbelief about the one and only Son of our God. We know different kinds of people respond differently to the Good News. There are who tend to be more open than others in hearing this truth. But I believe most of us are faced with people whose hearts are hard, distracted, doubtful, shallow and unbelieve including our own church family members.
Proof 1 : Isaiah 7:14 - The prophecy of Isaiah
During the reign King Ahaz of Judah, prophet Isaiah predicted 800 years before Christ's birth this prophecy, that Jesus was to be born of a virgin. This prophecy was fulfilled in Luke 1:30-33.
Christ was the only person in the world who was born of the Holy Spirit rather than the will of man. This Son of God could not have partaken of man's fallen state and still be our Saviour. The fact is that if Christ were the Son of God, He had to be born of the Holy Spirit. He therefore was more than an ordinary man. Thus this proofs He was the only begotten Son of our Heavenly Father.
Proof 2 : John 10:35-36 - Jesus declared Himself to be the Son of God
Through this scripture Jesus claimed He was the Son of God. There are some who say Jesus was a good man, a prophet but not divine. In John 8:54-58, we shall notice further proof of what Jesus claimed about Himself.
Before Christ was betrayed and arrested He prayed this prayer in John 17:1-5 to proof He shared the Father's glory before the world began.
Proof 3 : John 9:32-33 - Jesus performed miracles never before performed by man
Miracle is a universal language understood by all people of the world. When a genuine miracle takes place most people although not all will believe. Sometimes we watched with amazement at some of the acts performed by some great magicians and believe it to be so real but they are actually great illusionists performing their acts. But Jesus is not an illusionist or a magician, He is indeed a genuine man performing genuine miracles no man has ever performed on earth till today and there never will be one like Him. Read John 10:38.
Proof 4 : Matthew 4:23-25 - Jesus attracted large crowd
Firstly, Jesus loved lost people. He enjoyed being with the lost because He loved them. Even little children loved being around Him. This tells us simply about what kind of person Jesus was.
He loved and accepted people for who they are but not their sins. His love for the lost draws the crowd. To Jesus love is more than a feeling, it is a behaviour. He was always sensitive to the needs of the people around Him and putting their needs ahead of His own.
Secondly, Jesus gets people's attention. Why? The Son of God frequently asked, "What do you want me to do for you?" Throughout His life's ministry, Jesus had never ever asked the people what they can do for Him. He truly win hearts of the people and cares about every person's life. There is absolutely nothing that is too difficult or impossible for Him to carry-out to help them. In extending His help, He demonstrated God's love, acceptance, forgiveness, meaning and a purpose for living to those who surround Him.
Living in a very challenging world, today there are many people who are looking for freedom from fear, worry, resentment, insecurity, unforgiveness, loneliness, depression and the list can go on and on. Many of us were one of this categories before and now you are free from them because of your living faith in the promises of what the Son of God and can continue to do for you.
Proof 5 : The Son of God proved His power over death
Jesus had overcome for all time His victory over the power of death. And it was this victory that gave greater measure of faith and inspiration to the apostles to witness more powerfully. Their witness of Christ's resurrection had made what for the divine grace of God to rest upon them and this very same grace has come to the gentiles and is resting upon us too.
The revelation of this resurrection is relevant to every Christian who believes Jesus Christ to be the Son of God.
