Rejoicing In The Lord's Sanctuary
Psalm 84 was written by the 'sons of Korah' : who were they, we do not really know. They probably come from the tribe of Levites. Because of their connection and experience with temple worship, they were highly qualified to share with us the joy of worship in the sanctuary of the Lord. They were greatly devoted to seeking after God (Psalm 42).
Psalm 84 is divided into three parts by the word "Selak":
~ part 1: v1-4 - the joy of the house (sanctuary) of the Lord
~ part 2: v5-8 - the joy of the pilgrimage of life
~ part 3: v 9-12 - the joy of the providence of God
Three Blessings Promised:
~ v4 - Blessed are those who dwell in your house (blessing of DWELLING)
~ v.5 - Blessed are those whose strength is in You (blessing of DRAWING)
~ v.12 - Blessed is the man who trusts in you (blessing of DEPENDENCE)
A. Joy of the House of the Lord : verse 1-4
- True joy is not found in things
- True joy is found in experiencing God
* In John 15:10-11, "If you obey His commands and remain in His love; His joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete."
* In verse 4. - Blessed are those who dwell in your house, even praising you.
B. The Joy of the Pilgrimage of Life
- v5. Blessed are those whose strength is in You who have set the hearts on pilgrimage
- We see our salvation as a pilgrimage, the world is not our own, we are just passing through as pilgrims (v.7)
- God is love and this love is shown by God's people
- Love received is love returned
C. Joy of the Providence of God : v9-12
~ v8 - asking God to look favourably upon our shield and anointed one
~ v9 - is part of prayer
~ v10 - is a good challenge for us, "Blessed is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere."
~ v11-12 - the Lord is a sun - gives light and life, He is also a shield that gives proctection
~ the Lord bestows favor and honor - His divine providence
~ no good thing does he withhold - He is ever gracious, from those whose walk is blameless
Blessed is the man who trusts in you:
The Lord will provide everything that is necessary to do His will provided we are willing to Trust and Obey!
